US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Baltimore have intercepted a stolen heavy-duty tractor-bulldozer valued at approximately $237,000, which was bound for Ghana.

According to a graphic.com.gh report citing a CBP press release, the 2015 Caterpillar D8T was stopped during a routine export inspection at the Area Port of Baltimore on September 3, 2025.

A verification of the vehicle identification number confirmed it matched an active theft report filed with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland.

Following confirmation, CBP officers seized the bulldozer before it could be shipped out of the port.

Jason Kropiewnicki, Acting Area Port Director for Baltimore, stressed the agency’s commitment to disrupting criminal networks involved in smuggling stolen vehicles abroad.

“Customs and Border Protection officers continue to combat transnational criminal organisations by interrupting the international trade in stolen vehicles at our seaports. We will continue to secure our nation’s borders, recover stolen vehicle exports, and work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to hold these criminal organisations accountable,” he said.

Baltimore is recognised as one of the busiest hubs in the United States for recovering stolen vehicles.

In 2024, the Baltimore Field Office recovered 250 stolen vehicles intended for export, with about 60% bound for West Africa. Ghana was a frequent destination, accounting for 28 of those recoveries.
