The Savannah Region has become the centre of attention as Ghanaian culinary talent Chef Sabiatu Mahazu embarks on a daring attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

The cook-a-thon, which began on Saturday, September 5, 2025, at the Jakpa Palace forecourt in Damongo, is expected to run until Friday, September 12.

Chef Sabiatu is aiming to cook continuously for 150 hours, surpassing the current record of 140 hours and 11 minutes, set by Liberian-Australian chef Evette Quoibia in Melbourne in February 2024.

Videos circulating on TikTok show enthusiastic crowds rallying behind Chef Sabiatu as she works tirelessly in her kitchen setup.

In one lively moment, she was spotted using a ketchup bottle as a microphone to sing along while a musician entertained supporters — a sign of her resilience and energy despite the grueling challenge.

If successful, Chef Sabiatu will not only bring the prestigious record home to Ghana but will also make history as the first Ghanaian chef to hold the title.

Previous attempts by renowned Ghanaian chefs, including Failatu Abdul-Razak, Abena Kwartemaa, and Ebenezer Smith, ended unsuccessfully, raising the stakes and significance of her challenge.
