Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has hailed the Black Stars for their performance in the 1-0 victory over Mali in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He commended the players for bouncing back from their 1-1 draw against Chad to churn out a win over Mali in what was a keenly contested match.

“It’s a good game. We won. What we wanted was the three solid points, and we got the points that we needed. As far as we are concerned, we already talked about qualifying for the World Cup. We didn’t win against Chad, but the boys played all out, and we have won against Mali, which is the strongest side in this group,” he said in a video shared by 3Sports on X.

The Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency also expressed optimism about the team’s chances of qualification, considering their two remaining games.

“The rest, we are going to play with them also. In three weeks’ time, we will be going to face the Central African Republic in Morocco, and we will take three points from there also and come home to deal with Comoros.

“Ghana should continue to play for the team. Ghana should continue to do everything humanly possible to make sure that the Black Stars of Ghana are part of the nation’s teams that will assemble for the World Cup. It’s a good game,” he added.

Meanwhile, after eight matches, Ghana lead Group I with 19 points, Madagascar are second with 16 points, Comoros are third with 15 points, while Mali lie fourth with 12 points.

The team will regroup in October 2025 to play their final two matches against the Central African Republic (CAR) and Comoros to finalize the qualification.
