    The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has achieved another historic feat by becoming the first female Ghanaian Vice President to address the African Union.

    Prof Opoku-Agyemang, known for breaking the status quo and setting the pace for young women, both in Ghana and globally, attended the event representing the country.

    The information was shared by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on his social media accounts: Facebook and X, on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

    The minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, appeared elated by the historic moment and expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama.

    He intimated that this achievement for the country was made possible by the president’s commitment to gender equality and representation, adding that it will serve as a source of hope and inspiration for young women.

    “Beautiful history! Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang today becomes the first female Ghanaian Vice President to address the African Union in Ethiopia. Thank you Ghana; Thank you AU Gender Champion, President John Mahama. Our daughters must know that nothing is impossible to achieve,” he wrote.
