Media personality Abena Moet has criticised some attendees of Daddy Lumba’s one-week observance for what she described as inappropriate attire, turning the solemn event into a “marketplace” of self-promotion.

The one-week observance for Highlife legend Daddy Lumba was held on August 30, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra, following a venue change due to a noise-making ban.

Thousands gathered to mourn the musician, who passed away on July 26, 2025.

However, during the event, videos surfaced showing Ghanaian gospel artiste Broda Sammy arriving with a woman in a tight-fitting dress that accentuated her “voluptuous backside,” drawing the attention of mourners.

In a passionate rebuke, Moet questioned why some attendees wore revealing clothing, stating, “Tell me why someone is dead, and we are observing his one week and trying to mourn his loss, but some people were displaying their backsides. We are mourning a whole legend, and you were in a bareback dress and a tight-fitting dress? I was like, ‘We are crying here, people.’”

She likened the scene to a marketplace where individuals were “advertising their products,” implying that the “products” were their bodies.

Moet also singled out Broda Sammy for criticism, questioning his decision to bring the woman to the event.

“As for Broda Sammy, what was he doing? Why did he bring the lady there? Was he coming to do gospel music? Was the lady there as a backup singer? What was his intent?” she asked.

Moet stressed that such behavior disrespected Daddy Lumba’s legacy and urged mourners to dress and conduct themselves appropriately at solemn gatherings.
