Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has chided individuals who have criticised the association regarding the Black Stars budget for the game against Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Sports Ministry scrapped the $5,000 fuel budget proposed by the GFA, sparking public criticism amid perceptions that the amount was meant to fuel the Black Stars‘ bus for their game against Chad.

However, Oduro Sarfo has disclosed that the budgeted amount was not meant for the Black Stars‘ bus alone but to cater for other officials involved in the game.

The GFA ExCo member stated that people creating such an impression in the public are ignorant and spreading lies to put the GFA’s image into disrepute.

“The fuel budget is not for the Black Stars‘ bus alone. It extends to vehicles for the referees, commissioners, and other key officials. Anyone reducing it to just the team bus is either exposing their ignorance or intentionally peddling lies,” he said, as reported by Joy Sports.

Oduro Sarfo further clarified that funds disbursed by the government are allocated to the sports ministry’s accounts for usage, hence the GFA has no intent to misuse the funds.

“When Black Stars budgets are approved, the funds are paid directly into the ministry’s accounts, not the GFA’s. So let’s not twist the narrative to make it appear as though the GFA crafted these budgets to line its own pockets,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are set to face Chad on Thursday, September 4, 2025, as they prepare towards winning to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
