Security Expert, Dr Ishmael Norman, has descended heavily on the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, urging him to do the most honourable thing and resign from his position as MP.
This, Dr Norman explained, will be in fulfilment of Okyere Baafi’s personal pledge to the nation ahead of the Akwatia by-election that he would resign as a member of parliament if his party lost.
Okyere Baafi earlier pledged with confidence ahead of the elections that “If NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP, mark my words.”
His party’s candidate, Solomon Asumadu, who obtained 15,235 votes, lost the election to the National Democratic Congress’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo, who polled 18,199 votes in the fiercely contested by-election.
Reacting to the loss of the NPP on TV3, Dr Norman said, “I want to see honourable Baafi resign because he made this announcement. I wish there were a way that constituents could have a vote of no confidence.”

He asked, “Seriously, who compelled him to make that statement that if NPP doesn’t win, he will resign. NPP would not, so he should; otherwise, the party should kick him out.”
“It goes to the fact that there’s no credibility within NPP as it is now,” he added.
The Akwatia by-election, necessitated by the untimely demise of 40-year-old former MP for the area, Ernest Yaw Kumi, was held across the constituency yesterday, September 2, 2025.
The candidate of the NDC, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, won with 18,199 votes, surpassing Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP, who obtained 15,235 valid votes.
