The Akwatia by-election is shaping up to be a contest to watch, as Ghanaians, particularly members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and residents of Akwatia, prepare to elect their new parliamentary representative.

The by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, will see Solomon Asumadu of the NPP, Bernard Baidoo of the NDC, and an independent candidate, Owusu Patrick, face off in the contest.

Ahead of the election, a resident of the constituency has openly declared her support for Solomon Asumadu.

In an interview with Oyerepa TV shared on Facebook on Monday, September 1, 2025, the middle-aged woman described the NPP candidate as the ideal choice for Akwatia, citing his philanthropic work.

“… because of his philanthropies, we will vote for him. He should go to Parliament and fold his arms just to receive pay. We know what he is capable of doing for us and we will vote for him and the NPP,” she said.

She added that although she is aware the NPP is currently not in power, making development projects more challenging, she believes Asumadu can still deliver for the constituency.

“His party is not in power, but he can solely use his money to develop our roads. He will do well even if the NDC doesn’t give him the chance,” she added.
