The Frimpong Manso Institute (FMI) has called on contesting political parties, security agencies, and voters to uphold the highest respect for democratic values, implement stringent security measures, and maintain peaceful conduct during the upcoming Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Given the notorious history of violent acts and security breaches that have marred previous by-elections, FMI noted that the Akwatia contest presents a critical opportunity for Ghana to chart a new course of democratic renewal.

While acknowledging that security standards in Akwatia are reportedly higher than in previous by-elections, FMI emphasised that the true test lies in the effective prevention of and response to any security challenges by law enforcement agencies.

FMI’s call was contained in a press release on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

With both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) showing strong determination to win, FMI expressed hope and prayer that democracy and peace will emerge victorious in this crucial contest.
