The 64th Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kane Nana Francis, took a strong swipe at critics of his administration during his final State of the SRC Address delivered on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Addressing the KNUST SRC Parliament, the outgoing president questioned the basis of criticisms against his administration’s performance, noting that easy access to the internet has enabled such critiques.

“Students now have the opportunity to access the internet, and some choose to leave their books behind, go online, and type anything to insult or use scanty words against an administration. My question to everybody out there is: Do you know what it takes to be president?” he questioned.

Giving an account of his stewardship, the SRC president expressed confidence and satisfaction in his administration’s work despite unwarranted criticism.

“We have not achieved everything, yet we have achieved enough to prove that progress is indeed possible, that unity is powerful, and that conviction is stronger than criticism,” he stated.

Kane Nana Francis was elected KNUST SRC President in July 2024 after emerging victorious in a keenly contested race.

He won against eight other opponents, securing 8,890 votes, representing 44.92% of the total votes cast at the end of the polls.

Trial of KNUST student in girlfriend’s death adjourned to Sept 15

His victory in 2024 marked the second attempt by the fourth-year Geography student for the SRC presidency.
