Champion of Champions showdown today; a revenge or repeat Champion of Champions showdown today; a revenge or repeat

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is battle-ready to face off reigning Ghana Premier League (GPL) champions, Bibiani Gold Stars, in a highly anticipated Champion of Champions showdown today, Sunday, August 31, 2025.

To Kotoko, revenge is high on their agenda, while Gold Stars, in their own backyard, will want to consolidate their supremacy over the Ashanti Warriors, who have been in decline recently.

This is what makes the match an intense and thrilling encounter, with both teams looking to emerge victorious at the 7,000-capacity Dun’s Park in Bibiani.

Gold Stars has been in top form recently, with a string of impressive wins in their last few matches during the Top 4 tournament, while Kotoko has experienced a poor run during the same tournament without a win in 3 games.

However, Kotoko skipper Samba O’Neil says the team is poised for a painful revenge against their hosts this afternoon, despite struggling to find its footing.

At their last meeting, Gold Stars defeated Kotoko 2-1 in their opening game of the recently concluded GHALCA Top 4 tournament, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Kotoko skipper told GFA Media that “They scored us in the top 4, so we are coming back for revenge.”

According to him, “It’s going to be very, very difficult, as you know, but we are getting ready for the challenge. We are coming all out for it, so we are going to take it.”

While Gold Stars come into this match as the GPL winners, Kotoko will face them as the winners of the FA Cup.

The much-anticipated Champion of Champions clash between Bibiani Gold Stars and Kumasi Asante Kotoko this afternoon is a curtain-raiser for the 2025-26 Premier League season, which kicks off on Friday, September 12, 2025
