The NDC team however resisted the attacks until personnel from the Ghana Police Service arrived to provide reinforcement.
It took the intervention of the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and former Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Kingston Akomeng Kissi to calm the supporters and cleared a path for Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and his entourage to proceed to where the former President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were seated to pay their respects.

Ernest Kumi, a first-time MP on the ticket of the NPP was recently at the centre of a high-profile legal battle over his parliamentary legitimacy.
His death comes after the Supreme Court overturned his contempt conviction tied to the disputed 2024 parliamentary election results.
In February 2025, the Koforidua High Court found him guilty of contempt after he defied an interim injunction barring him from presenting himself for swearing-in as an MP.
The court subsequently issued a bench warrant for his arrest, citing his failure to attend hearings and his disregard for its authority.
