Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Dutch star Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a dramatic twist that saw them beat Chelsea to his signature.

The 21-year-old joins Spurs for a fixed fee of €60 million on a contract running until 2030, with the option of a further two years. He will wear the iconic No.7 shirt in North London.

“The noise, don’t listen to it all. Only what matters. Tottenham called, I answered,” Simons said in his first words as a Spurs player.

The move comes after successful negotiations between Tottenham and RB Leipzig, with Simons excused from training on Thursday, August 28, 2025, to travel to London and finalise the deal.

Spurs have been in the market for a creative No.10 all summer after missing out on Eberechi Eze, who chose Arsenal instead.

Simons, however, fits the profile perfectly, having impressed as a left-sided No.8 in Leipzig’s 4-3-3 last season while also being capable of operating off a striker or in wider attacking roles.

A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, Simons first attracted Chelsea’s interest as a teenager before joining Paris Saint-Germain and later Leipzig. Ironically, Chelsea were once again frontrunners to sign him this summer before Tottenham swooped in to seal the deal.
