Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, widely known as Medikal, has shared candid advice for rappers in Ghana, stressing the need to strike a balance between lyrical depth and commercial viability in order to survive in the industry.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the award-winning rapper cautioned that ignoring the business side of music could leave even the most talented lyricists struggling financially.

“If you be rapper for Ghana, wey you no commercialize your craft and let some Alo fans get to your head thinking you got the hardest bars, hunger wey go kill you,” Medikal wrote.

He encouraged fellow rappers to diversify their style and not rely solely on punchlines or hardcore rap. “As a rapper in Ghana, know how to balance the scale, sometimes punchlines, sometimes Azonto, learn from me,” he added.

Medikal, who has built a career blending street rap with mainstream hits, said the key to longevity is knowing how to please fans while also ensuring financial stability.

“As you de think about the fans, think about your self too, if you no chop, how you go fi feed the fans… The goal is to entertain and inspire.”
