Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, has taken a swipe at the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, over the latter’s admission that he influenced delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the party’s presidential primary, which elected the former vice president as their 2024 candidate.
She stated that this completely disqualifies him from taking the position of President of Ghana.
Madam Daniels said that as a Ghanaian, she believes it would be dangerous for delegates of the NPP to elect someone who influences delegates with money to vote for somebody who he has now turned around to describe as incompetent.
“I don’t hate Bryan Acheampong. I am not a supporter of Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, or any other candidate. I am a Ghanaian and CEO of Peace Watch Ghana, and I am worried that someone who publicly admits to influencing voters is seeking to be elected as a candidate and later elected president.
“The NPP should be wise because Bryan Acheampong does not even deserve to be elected a leader of a political party,” she said in an interview.
“For someone who claims to have sponsored a candidate who he is today accusing of being incompetent, it shows he is not fit to lead his party and the country. If the NPP elects him as a candidate, doom will come upon the country.
“Bryan has to be arrested. Where did he get the money to pay to the delegates? He ought to be investigated because giving people money to influence their votes is a criminal offense.”
She expressed worry over the issue of monetisation in the body politic in Ghana and has called on the two political parties to put in measures to address the issue.
Madam Daniels noted that allowing money to influence voters is a general canker we must deal with, as it is a threat to Ghana’s democracy and political stability.
