Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, has tipped Kofi Kinaata as the musician most prepared to carry the torch of Highlife into the future.

In a recent interview on Joy Prime, Ambolley praised Kinaata’s humility and wisdom, qualities he believes make the singer destined for greatness.

He recalled being deeply moved when Kinaata once played him a song.

“The next person that’s going to make it happen is Kofi Kinaata. He is sensible in the music and he’s someone who is humble.

“The second record that he released, he made me to go and listen to it and I was very happy,” Ambolley said.

The veteran musician noted that Kinaata’s creative path shows a commitment to Highlife while also expanding its possibilities.

“The direction he wants to go, he’s stepping out, he’s trying to stick to his highlife identity and he’s adding more to it. This makes me know that he’s musically inclined to be able to do that,” he explained.

Ambolley concluded that the time has come to pass on the legacy.

“So we have to pass on the baton and he’s the one who’s going to hold it and do it. I’ve been watching him and I think he’s the next,” he stated.
