Ghana’s football community has been thrown into mourning following reports of the sudden death of PAC Academy General Manager, Stephen Appiah.

According to multiple sources, the respected Division One League administrator is said to have passed away on Wednesday night, August 27, 2025, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after a short illness.

The news has sent shockwaves through the local football scene, although details remain limited.

Adding to the reports, football journalist Abdul Wadudu Osman shared a short but emotional message on his official Facebook page:

“What a shock Stephen Appiah.” His post has further fuelled the sense of grief and disbelief across the Division One League community.

Appiah had built a strong reputation as a hardworking and visionary leader at PAC Academy, where he championed youth development and helped the club carve out a competitive identity in Ghana’s second tier.

Colleagues and players often described him as disciplined, passionate, and committed to giving young footballers the best possible platform to succeed.

Reports further suggest reactions have already begun pouring in from those who worked closely with him with a club official describing his passing as a huge setback:

“Stephen was more than an administrator; he was a mentor to many of our players. This is a big loss to Ghana football. He was well respected for his knowledge of player registration at the GFA.”
