The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has expressed concerns that the Supreme Court may one day overturn a presidential victory by the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Friday, October 18, 2024, he stated, “I have a feeling that we will wake up one morning, and John Mahama will be declared the winner, and a group of judges will overturn the decision. The Supreme Court’s ruling is giving me the feeling that one day, John Mahama will be elected, and a group of judges will overturn that decision and say they don’t agree.”

His comment follows the ruling by the apex court on Friday, October 18, 2024, to overturn the ruling of the Speaker, who had declared four parliamentary seats vacant.

The court’s directive requires Parliament to recognize and allow the four Members of Parliament to fully represent their constituencies and carry out their official duties.

The affected MPs — Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central)—had earlier been declared as breaching provisions in Parliament by either switching political affiliations or indicating their intention to run as independents in the pending election.
