Ghanaian entertainment pundit cum marketer Kwaku Osei Krankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has stated that the low turnout at the Africa Cinema Summit 2024 was due to poor advertisement.

Speaking on Hitz FM, KOKA said the event lacked the compelling and engaging elements necessary to attract creatives.

He stated that, with the country in an election year, the attention of Ghanaians are currently focused on campaign activities.

“It was an industry thing they were doing, so they had to make it compelling to get engagement. When you assume that because you are bringing a big person, so everyone is available is wrong.

“We are in an election year, so there are a lot of campaign messages in the country and they have taken all the space. What happened was bad and wrong because the advertisement was poor,” he said.

Touching on other matters, KOKA also emphasised that while Ghanaian movie producers and directors have great stories to tell, they often lack a strategic approach.

“My biggest threat is that there is no strategy, we have the best storyline. Nigeria can not be compared to us, because their movies are filled with fashion, culture, and real estate,” he noted.

The National Film Authority organised the second Africa Cinema Summit from October 7 to October 10, 2024.

The event featured British-Sierra Leonean actor Idris Elba, Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, his Deputy Mark Okraku-Mantey, and other members of the creative arts industry from across Africa.
