Kofi Kinaata has disclosed the emotional weight he carries after surviving what could have been his own tragedy. The musician revealed that he had twice boarded the same helicopter that later crashed on August 6, 2025, killing eight prominent Ghanaian officials.

The accident, he said, has haunted him ever since, leaving him deeply unsettled about how fragile life can be.

In reflecting on the crash and other recent sorrows, the death of 16 schoolchildren in a road accident and the passing of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, Kinaata admitted these losses have taken a heavy toll on his spirit.

He confessed that knowing he could have easily been one of the victims of the helicopter disaster fills him with constant unease. Even his music, once his refuge, now reflects the grief he is struggling to release.

Sharing his feelings in an X post, he wrote: “From the loss of 16 kids, to the passing of our legendary musicians, and now the helicopter tragedy, it’s been weighing heavily on my soul. What makes it even harder is knowing I’ve been on that same flight twice this year. That thought just won’t leave me. Moments like these really make you question life… what’s the point, when it can all end in an instant? I’ve tried to shake it off with music, but every song I write somehow turns into a sad one.”

His openness drew a response from rapper Sarkodie, who offered empathy and encouragement. Sarkodie urged him not to suppress his grief but to use music as a vessel for it, reminding him that his songs could become a source of healing for others.

“It’s a very dark time and I can relate a hundred percent… as a true artist, you can only channel what you feel so don’t fight it just pour out what you are feeling inside… you don’t know who might need it. Drop the music,” Sarkodie wrote.
