Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has fumed over the racial abuse against football players, which is gradually becoming a concern globally.

According to him, the lack of proper sanctions and punishments meted out to perpetrators of racial abuse is damaging and defaming the reputation of the sport.

The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach suggested that racism appears to be a canker that has not been dealt with appropriately in Germany and other countries, thereby calling for stringent measures.

“For years, we’ve seen the same pattern: an incident, then downplaying, then silence. Racism in football is not an accident or a marginal phenomenon—it is systemic.

“As long as we talk about individual perpetrators and individual idiots, the system remains untouched. In order to change the system, the DFB and DFL must finally make anti-racism a top priority,” Addo said, while commenting on Ghanaian players facing racial abuse, as reported by ghanasoccernet.com.

This follows racial abuse against Ghanaian players in the DFB Pokal in Germany, including Black Stars winger Christopher Antwi-Adjei and Kelsey Owusu.

Antoine Semenyo also faced a similar ordeal when Bournemouth played against Liverpool at Anfield, with the perpetrator banned from all United Kingdom stadiums.
