The Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has launched a robust public advocacy campaign to improve the resourcing of Ghana’s military.

Speaking on the Tuesday, August 12, 2025, edition of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, the Member of Parliament for Assin South emphasised the need for a non-partisan dialogue to strengthen the country’s security agencies.

He cited pressing challenges such as terrorism threats, cybercrime, the rise of illegal mining (galamsey), and cross-border criminal activities.

“Security is paramount, and I am extending the conversation beyond the Ghana Armed Forces to the entire national security architecture. Let’s consider immigration, the police service, the prisons, where inmates are fed with just 60 pesewas per meal and the fire service, which lacks equipment to tackle fires at height,” he said.

He pledged that the Minority Caucus remains committed to engaging in non-partisan consensus-building to address the resource shortages undermining security and national defense delivery.

On the issue of a presidential jet, the Ranking Member described it as essential to meeting the critical travel requirements of the Ghana Armed Forces for the president and other key executive members.

He stressed the importance of acquiring a fleet, including a jet and a helicopter, to facilitate presidential and official travel.

He underscored that such investments are crucial to ensuring citizen safety, safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity, and maintaining the peace and stability needed for national development.
