FIFA has hit Hearts of Oak with a transfer ban FIFA has hit Hearts of Oak with a transfer ban

In a blow to Accra Hearts of Oak’s rebuilding plans, FIFA has imposed a sweeping transfer ban, both domestically and internationally, against the Ghanaian giants after the club failed to settle an outstanding debt to former Technical Director Rene Hiddink.

A letter dated 21 August 2025, issued by FIFA’s Legal and Compliance Division and addressed via the FIFA Legal Portal, confirmed that the registration ban will remain in place until the full amount owed is paid and for a maximum of three entire and consecutive registration periods.

The US$150,000 debt stems from Hiddink’s wrongful termination claim. Having been hired in July 2023 under a three-year contract, the Dutch tactician exited after just eight months, citing unfair dismissal. FIFA ruled in his favor, ordering compensation to be paid by Hearts of Oak.

This sanction delivers a serious setback as the Phobians prepare for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. Without the ability to register new players, the club’s squad-building efforts are effectively paralyzed.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has also been instructed to enforce the ban at the national level.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, the Phobians face Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars at 6pm today, Friday August 22, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Matchday 2 of the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, having already opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions.
