Former Black Stars midfielder, Afriyie Acquah has revealed how he abandoned his dream of becoming a chef and owning a restaurant to pursue a career in football.

According to the former Torino midfielder, he wanted to continue his grandmother’s restaurant business and work as a chef but his uncle shoved football down his throat.

In an interview with GMN Sports on YouTube, Afriyie revealed that his uncle was the sole reason why he pursue a career in football because he (uncle) saw something that he didn’t see in himself.

“If i hadn’t played football, i would have been a chef because that was what i liked as a kid. My mother was running my grandmother’s restaurant and i was spending a lot of time there so i liked it and wanted to continue from there.”

“I didn’t like playing football but my uncle was the one always forcing me to go and play. I remember he once came to drag me away from the restaurant because he didn’t understand why my colleagues were playing football and i was in restaurant with my mother,” Afriyie Acquah said in the interview as monitored by GhanaWeb Sports.

Afriyie Acquah before his retirement played for Torino and a host of middle table clubs in the Serie A. He also featured 39 times for Ghana and was part of the 2015 Black Stars’ Africa Cup of Nations squad.
