Hajia Mariam Mohammed, the President and Chairperson of Voice of the Nation and also the General Deputy Secretary of African Development and Monitoring Group (ADAM-GH), has taken a bold step in empowering young women by donating sewing machines to a group of selected beneficiaries.

The initiative, according to Hajia Mariam, forms part of her long-standing commitment to supporting women and youth with employable skills that can sustain their livelihoods. She emphasized that the gesture was not merely an act of charity but a strategic empowerment drive aimed at reducing unemployment and promoting self-reliance among young ladies.

Speaking during the short presentation ceremony, Hajia Mariam underscored the importance of skill acquisition in today’s world. She explained that vocational skills such as sewing provide sustainable income opportunities and can help young women contribute significantly to their households and the community at large.

“It is not enough to only advocate for development. We must take practical steps to ensure that the youth, especially young women, are equipped with skills that will secure their future. These sewing machines will help the beneficiaries to start small businesses, create employment for themselves, and hopefully expand to employ others,” she said.

The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hajia Mariam Mohammed for her generosity and foresight. They described the donation as a life-changing intervention that would enable them to pursue their dreams of becoming self-reliant entrepreneurs.

Leaders of Voice of the Nation and ADAM-GH present at the event praised Hajia Mariam for her consistency in championing youth and women development. They urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate her example by investing in initiatives that directly empower the vulnerable in society.

The donation exercise, which took place in Accra, was also accompanied by words of encouragement and a mentorship session where the young ladies were advised on business discipline, customer relations, and how to utilize the opportunity for long-term growth.
