For the past days, social media has been buzzing with conversations about the business side of music, following news of artistes selling their catalog.

In the midst of the back-and-forth, rapper and lyricist M.anifest weighed in with his frustration about how such discussions are often handled in Ghana.

Taking to his X page on August 19, 2025, M.anifest said his biggest issue with these conversations is that, not only are people uninformed but they are utterly loud in their ignorance.

We’re always making excuses, we should be serious – M.anifest on music industry

According to him, the problem goes beyond misinformation.

He argued that many Ghanaians are quick to believe falsehoods from their favourite artistes, yet skeptical of the truth when it comes from people they do not particularly like.

“My problem with music business discussions around these parts is that most people are not just misinformed but loud and wrong. We’re gullible to the lies of our faves and skeptical about the truths of those we don’t like. Last last I hope the music is great or at least good,” he wrote.

If I have to explain my evolution, then I’ve failed – M.anifest

His colleague rapper, Kojo Cue, also ‘jumped’ into the conversation by quoting the post and extending the argument.

For him, this issue is not unique to music. He believes the same attitude plays out in many sectors where people feel empowered to speak with authority without understanding the subject.

Kojo Cue illustrated his point with an example. With the rise of artificial intelligence, he explained, someone could easily do a quick AI-powered search and then challenge a doctor about a procedure like a C-section, despite having no medical training.

That same misplaced confidence, he said, spills over into conversations about the music industry, especially marketing, which often appears simpler from the outside than it really is.

“That is the problem of the market square we find ourselves in and it’s not limited to music alone … I can ChatGPT and argue with a doctor about a C-section right now and be an asshole about it … wild times. Music and marketing is even worse because on the outside it looks so easy to do,” he wrote.
