The Head of Legal, Governance, Regulatory, and Research at the Right to Information (RTI) Commission, Stephen Owusu, has disclosed that the Commission received a total of 123 complaints in 2024, the majority of which were resolved through mediation.

He made this known during the Commission’s fifth anniversary launch on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

“In 2024, regarding the complaints we received as a Commission, we are talking about 123 complaints, in addition to 30 complaints carried over from 2023,” he noted.

Owusu emphasised that the increase in complaints reflected growing public awareness and use of the RTI law.

He explained that many of the petitions stemmed from delays or outright denials of information, while others came from applicants dissatisfied with the responses they received.

He further disclosed that the full 2024 report is yet to be laid before Parliament, noting that the Commission has remained consistent in promoting awareness of the law.
