Businessman and football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah has taken aim at Asante Kotoko, describing the Porcupine Warriors as “not a serious club” after they abstained from voting during the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) 31st Ordinary Congress.

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, delegates gathered at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram to decide on one of the most significant amendments in recent years, whether to extend the tenure of the GFA presidency from two terms to three.

The outcome was emphatic: 114 votes in favour, six against, and three abstentions. Kotoko, Ghana’s most successful club, was among those who declined to take a position.

Grusah, who had openly opposed the amendment in the weeks leading up to Congress, was unimpressed with Kotoko’s stance, voicing his displeasure during an interview on Akoma FM.

“Kotoko is not a serious club at all. A big club like Kotoko cannot fail to cast its vote in a major decision such as the amendment of the GFA’s statutes,” he said.

He further highlighted a growing concern around Kotoko’s preparations for continental football, with the club yet to confirm where it will host its CAF Confederation Cup fixtures.

“Meanwhile, their venue for the CAF Confederation Cup is still unknown at this time. They need to start taking things seriously,” he added.

The veteran football administrator, whose King Faisal side were relegated to Division One in June 2023, has long accused GFA President Kurt Okraku of failing to prioritise youth football development.
