Kurt Okraku believes his administration has performed well despite the challenges Kurt Okraku believes his administration has performed well despite the challenges

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has shared some of the major feats during his tenure since the 30th Ordinary Congress held on August 27, 2021.

The many achievements include successfully organizing local football competitions, training numerous people in coaching, securing a television partnership for the Ghana Premier League, and others.

During the 31st Ordinary Session of Congress on August 12, 2025, GFA President Kurt Okraku noted that despite many setbacks, his administration has had some successes to boast of.

    Read the achievements below:

    Local Competitions:

The GFA boss stated that most sporting competitions in the country were organized successfully, including football and other disciplines.

“For the sixth straight season, we successfully organised all domestic competitions, Ghana Premier League, Women’s Premier League, Division One League, Beach Soccer, Futsal, and the FA Cup (male and female) – both regular and off-season – without challenges,” he said.

    Coaching and Refereeing:

The GFA announced that it has groomed many people in securing coaching licenses, as well as getting young ones on board.

“Since the last Congress, 750 coaches have been certified (D to B licenses), and 2,561 boys and girls have been trained under the Catch Them Young Refereeing Policy, alongside advanced training for existing referees,” Kurt Okraku noted.

    Black Stars:

The GFA boss indicated that although it is painful that the Black Stars missed out on the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the likelihood of the team making it to the 2026 World Cup is high, following the resurgence in their performances.

“Though we regretfully missed out on AFCON 2025, the Black Stars remain on track for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification in the USA, Canada, and Mexico,” Okraku said.

    Ghana Premier League broadcast partnership:

In terms of improving the publicity of the Ghana Premier League, Okraku said, “As a result of our TV partnership with Adesa Productions Limited, we have reached the last line in our desire to deploy a VA strategy in Ghana. This means more cost in the management of the game, but it’s a pathway we want to tread.”

    Safety protocols:

Speaking on tackling hooliganism in the local league, Kurt stated that his outfit has implemented stringent measures to curtail the menace.

“Following the passing of devoted fan Nana Pooley, we have enhanced safety protocols to protect the lives and well-being of all match attendees,” he noted.

    Balck Queens:

The Black Queens’ ability to secure bronze medal in the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is another feat for the GFA.

Following their successes, Kurt Okraku congratulated them and vowed to invest in women’s football for better performances in the future.
