The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that President Kurt Okraku is not currently considering running for a third term.

According to him, the GFA boss is focused on improving the fortunes of Ghana football and ending his tenure with a strong legacy.

However, Asante Twum noted that if Congress approves a proposal to extend the presidential term limit to three, aligning with CAF and FIFA, that decision could influence future developments.

Speaking to GhanaWeb Sports at the 31st Ordinary Session of Congress on August 12, 2025, the GFA Communications Director clarified that despite public criticism of the proposal, Kurt Okraku has not decided to seek another term.

“We can extend it beyond two terms. Then he will be in a position to say whether or not he will run again. So it is not about Kurt. Unfortunately, the commentaries over the period have always focused on Kurt Okraku. FIFA governance believes it is a good step, but they do not have the power to enforce it.

“Go back to your Congress. If Congress says yes, then you can amend your statutes and extend it beyond two terms to three. If, after 2027, the current president, having gone through this process, wants to run again, it will be permitted by law. But as we speak, it is not even permitted by law, let alone for him to be thinking about running again,” he said.
