The former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed sorrow over the passing of Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, the Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom.
In a post on his Facebook page on Monday, August 11, 2025, Dr Bawumia described Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III as an enduring symbol of unity, grace, and candour throughout her reign.
“Nana, throughout her reign, remained an enduring symbol of unity, grace, and candour. Her sense of compassion and open arms received many, of whom I am proud to have been part. Her words of encouragement and counsel just as her prayers have been a source of strength for me,” he wrote.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, officially announced the death of the Asantehemaa at the Manhyia Palace on August 11, 2025.
The announcement followed a mandatory sitting of the Asanteman Council on Monday, August 11, 2025, attended by all paramount chiefs and representatives of the various clans.
Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III is dead
A one-week observance to honour the late Asantehemaa is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who was 98 years old at the time of her passing, reigned for eight years after succeeding Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
