A motorcyclist and pedestrian have both died after a fatal collision on a busy A road, with three people arrested.

Lancashire Police first received reports of a BMW motorbike colliding with two pedestrians on the A6 Preston Road in Clayton-Le-Woods just before 10.30pm on Thursday.

The motorcyclist was in 50s and from Macclesfield, Cheshire, while one of the pedestrians who sadly lost his life was a man in his 60s and from Clayton-Le-Woods.

Both men are understood to have sadly died at the scene.

The third person involved in the crash, a woman in her 60s, was taken to hospital where she currently remains in a serious but stable condition, according to the force.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, three arrests have been made.

A 53-year-old man from Whittle-le-Woods, Lancashire, alongside a 57-year-old man from Middlewich and a 46-year-old man from Congleton, both in Cheshire, have been arrested.

All were in the area at the time of the crash and were arrested on Friday on suspicion of dangerous driving.

They have since been released under investigation, subject to further inquiries.

Speaking about the fatal collision, Detective Sergeant Joe Ghigi said that the force’s investigation remained ‘ongoing’.

DS Ghigi added: This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of two men, and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.

‘Our thoughts are with the woman receiving treatment, and the loved ones of both men who died.

‘They are being supported by specially trained officers at this incredibly distressing time.

‘Although we have now made three arrests, our inquiries are very much ongoing.’

Any individuals who may have witnessed anything that evening or have any relevant dashcam footage captured between junctions 31 to 29 of the M6 and A6 in the Cloverfield Area between 10.15pm and 10.45pm have been asked to contact the force ‘as soon as possible’.

They can be contacted on 101 or by sending an email to SCIU@lancashire.police.uk, quoting log 1510 of August 7, 2025.
