    Some Ghanaians in the entertainment sector have taken to social media to express deep condolences following a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including two Cabinet Ministers.

    On August 6, 2025, the nation was plunged into mourning after a Z-9 military helicopter carrying the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others crashed en route to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in the Ashanti Region.

    In the wake of the tragic incident, several entertainment personalities took to social media to express their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

    In posts shared online, figures such as Kofi Kinaata, Amaarae, Gyakie, and others expressed their sympathies.

    In a message posted on August 6, 2025, Afrobeat singer Amaarae wrote, “OTW to Sweden for W.O.W Fest and I’m just finding out about the news of what happened in Ghana… My condolences go out to the families of Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and the six other officials and crew in a tragic helicopter crash this morning, as well as His Excellency President Mahama and our entire nation at this difficult time. Sending warmth & love to all of their loved ones.”

    Singer Gyakie also noted, “A sad day for our country. My heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this tragic accident.”

    Rapper Sarkodie, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), offered a brief but heartfelt tribute, “God rest their souls and strength to the families. #Tragic. Very heavy!”

    Other industry players, including Kofi Kinaata, Ohemaa Mercy, DKB, and KOD, also shared their condolences following the heartbreaking accident.

    Background

    On August 6, 2025, a military helicopter carrying three military officers and government officials on a national assignment crashed en route to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) at Black Park, near the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region.

    The fatal incident claimed the lives of:

    • Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence

    • Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment

    • Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

    • Samuel Sarpong, former Central Regional Minister

    • Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate

    The helicopter’s crew also perished in the crash. They included:

    • Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu

    • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

    • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
