The Creative Arts Agency has officially announced the indefinite postponement of the much-anticipated candlelight vigil in Kumasi in honour of the late legendary Highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

The event which was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Heroes Park in the Ashanti Regional capital, was meant to be the second major tribute following a successful one in Accra.

However, a press release dated August 7, 2025, and signed by Mr. Gideon Aryeequaye of the Creative Arts Agency, confirmed that the event would no longer hold on the planned date.

According to the statement, the decision comes in response to a directive by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, who declared three days of national mourning from August 7 to 9.

This follows the tragic and unfortunate helicopter crash at Adansi on August 6, which claimed the lives of eight individuals, including high-profile government officials.

The Agency noted that this difficult moment requires national solidarity, respect, and reflection, and therefore it would not be appropriate to proceed with celebratory events during the mourning period.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation during this difficult time,” a part of the release stated.

They also assured the public that a new date for the Kumasi Candlelight Vigil will be communicated in due course.
