The Bank of Ghana has postponed the official launch of its Cedi@60 Anniversary celebrations, originally scheduled for Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The decision comes in the wake of a tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of two ministers of state and six others.

In response to the incident, President John Dramani Mahama declared a three-day period of national mourning to honour the victims.

In a statement issued by the central bank, it said the postponement was necessary in light of the national tragedy and expressed its condolences to the families affected.

“The national launch of the Cedi@60 Anniversary activities has been postponed until further notice,” the Bank stated, adding that it appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders and the general public during this solemn period.

The Cedi@60 Anniversary was intended to commemorate six decades of Ghana’s national currency and highlight milestones in the country’s monetary history.

New details on the rescheduled date are expected to be communicated in due course.
