The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has praised team Ghana for their remarkable performance at the inaugural African School Games, held in Annaba, Algeria, from July 26 to August 5, 2025.

The young Ghanaian athletes secured an impressive haul of 14 medals, comprising of two gold, three silver, and nine bronze, showcasing the nation’s growing prowess in grassroots sports.

The team, consisting of 40 first- and second-year senior high school students, competed across 12 disciplines, including athletics, boxing, badminton, and 3×3 basketball, with standout performances in badminton where both gold medals were won.

Adu Moslena Ama Korama and Quarcoo Racheal claimed the Girls’ Doubles title, while Adu-Mintah Obapomba and Adu Moslena Ama Korama secured the Mixed Doubles gold, highlighting Ghana’s dominance in the sport.

GOC President, Richard Akpokavie lauded the team’s achievements, emphasizing the games’ role as a vital platform for nurturing young talent ahead of the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games.

The event, organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the International School Sport Federation (ISF), saw over 3,000 athletes from 53 African nations compete, with Ghana’s participation reflecting a strategic collaboration between the GOC, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

Notable silver medals came from boxers Laryea William (Boys Flyweight, 50kg) and Ablorh Abdul Rahman (Boys Lightweight, 60kg), while the 3×3 basketball men’s team reached the semifinals, narrowly missing the finals after a loss to The Gambia.

The GOC highlighted the team’s resilience and potential, expressing optimism for Ghana’s future in continental and global youth competitions.
