    On the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a devastating helicopter crash claimed the lives of eight individuals, including prominent members of Ghana’s government.

    Among the deceased were the Minister of Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

    Others who lost their lives included the Vice-Chair of the ruling National Democratic Congress, a senior national security adviser, as well as the aircraft’s pilots and crew members.

    The military confirmed that the Z‑9 utility helicopter had departed from Accra en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region before losing radar contact.

    The government has described the incident as a national tragedy, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

    Following the announcement, many Ghanaians took to social media to express their shock and grief. Among them were several celebrities who paid tribute to the deceased on their social media platforms.
