Security personnel have arrived at the family home of the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, to commiserate with his relatives following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed his life and that of several other government officials and crew members on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Dr Omane Boamah was among the eight individuals on board a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, which was en route to Obuasi on a national assignment when it lost radar contact and crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Others confirmed dead in the crash include Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

According to reports, the government officials were aboard the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter on an official trip to Obuasi when the aircraft disappeared from radar.

In a brief statement, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that efforts were underway to locate and assess the wreckage of the helicopter, which lost contact shortly after takeoff on Wednesday morning.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities have yet to release further details.
