Ghanaians have been thrown into a state of national mourning after a military helicopter, identified as Z9, went off radar and crashed, bursting into flames and killing everyone on board.

The confirmed deceased include top government officials and crew members, totaling eight individuals.

Among them were the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; and the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Following the news, many Ghanaians, including top state officials and prominent personalities have reacted by sending their condolences and by sharing memories they had with the deceased.

Notable among the memories being shared is Dr Omane Boamah’s funding of surgery for a nine-year-old boy who had mobility challenges, earlier this week.

According to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the helicopter crash involving the ministers occurred at Adansi Akrofuom in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The minister and the government officials were travelling to a programme at Obuasi.

The tragic incident occurred on August 6, 2025.
