The Project Manager of the La General Hospital, Richard Nii Dadey, has attributed delays in the construction of work at the facility to not being adequately furnished with the necessary funds from the government.
This is in reaction to claims that the project has been abandoned.
During an interview with JoyNews on August 5, 2025, Nii Dadey stated that although the contractor in charge of the reconstruction project is still on site with his workers, the project has been suspended.
According to him, although some payments have been made, others are still pending, which has caused the project to stall and may lead to challenges in executing the work if funds are not made available.
“Well as you can see behind us the crane is still here. You can see that there are some workers of the contractor on site so the works have not been abandoned. It has just been stalled but not abandoned. It has to do with the cash flow of the contractor.
“Certificates were raised and some have been paid and some have not been paid, so if he doesn’t have adequate cash flow, he cannot continue working. So, it’s got to do with his cash flow that is why he’s suspended the works for now. It is contractual and he’s allowed to do that,” he said.
The La General Hospital facility was demolished in July 2020, after the hospital’s administration in 2015 reported severe structural problems.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on August 10, 2020, cut the sod for the commencement of construction of the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project but has since faced delays.
