A Nigerian Catholic priest, Prince Chidi Philip, has criticised the popular reality television show Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), describing it as a “satanic distraction” that Christians must reject.
In a Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb Entertainment, the clergyman warned that the show is not just harmless entertainment but a deliberate tool that promotes immorality and weakens spiritual values.
According to him, BBNaija is filled with content that goes against Christian principles, including nudity, vulgar language, emotional manipulation, and other elements that he believes are spiritually dangerous.
“BBNaija Is Not Just a Show, It’s a Satanic Distraction. Christians, Turn It Off. Would Jesus sit down with you and watch BBNaija? If your answer is no, then why are you still watching it? BBNaija is not entertainment. It is a spiritual weapon of mass destruction, wrapped in lights, cameras, and seduction.
“And if you are a Christian who watches it, supports it, or defends it, you are part of the problem. We’ve reached a generation where nudity, vulgarity, and immoral living are streamed into our living rooms, and we call it ‘fun.’ We laugh at what makes God weep. We support what drags souls to hell,” the priest wrote.
The Catholic priest noted that the kind of content people consume through television and social media affects their thoughts, behavior, and spiritual life.
He warned that constant exposure to the themes of the BBNaija reality show, such as sexual immorality, profanity, gossip, and toxic competition, can make viewers insensitive to sin.
“Don’t be deceived. BBNaija is not ‘just a show.’ The human mind and heart are shaped by what they feed on. You can’t watch sexual immorality, gossip, drunkenness, and emotional manipulation every night and expect to walk in purity, holiness, or peace,” he stated.
The priest added that many people claim they want to hear from God or experience spiritual growth, but their choices show otherwise. He pointed out that what they watch and give their time to influences their spiritual state.
“You claim you want to hear the Holy Spirit, but your ears are tuned to housemates cursing, fighting, and seducing each other. You pray for revival, but your screen time reveals your real altar.
“BBNaija Is Training You to Become Morally Numb. What are we doing celebrating a program that glorifies fornication, greed, gossip? What BBNaija teaches: It’s okay to manipulate others for attention. Modesty is outdated. Fame justifies anything,” Philip wrote.
