Bill Eshun has been adjudged the 2025 SWAG Sports Journalist of the Year; an award which recognises his outstanding work and commitment to sports journalism.

The announcement came as an exciting development for the sports community on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Central Hotel in North Ridge, in Accra, as Bill Eshun stepped up to pick up the prestigious SWAG Sports Journalist of the Year award.

The award, presented by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), recognises the outstanding work of sports journalists in the country.

The nominees for the award included some of Ghana’s most talented and committed sports journalists, all of whom have shown remarkable expertise and devotion to their work.

Bill Eshun beat Asbella Nana Akua Amakwah, Fiifi Anaman, Nii Bruce Tagoe and Yaw Ofosu Larbie for this year’s award.

The nominees had covered a range of sports, such as football, athletics, badminton, boxing, arm wrestling, and para sports, demonstrating their versatility and expertise through their reportage.

A panel of judges determined the award winner by evaluating the nominees’ work based on writing quality, storytelling ability, and impact on the sports industry.

Instituted in 2022, journalists like Saddick Adams, Juliet Bawuah, Gary Al-Smith and Bright Kamkam Boadu have all won this prestigious award in past years.

Bill’s passion for sports journalism has earned him numerous accolades, including the Disability Reporter of the Year award at the 28th Ghana Journalists Association Awards in 2024.

He has also made the top five in the world at the AIPS Sport Media Awards for Young Reporters (Broadcasting) in 2024 and was adjudged Sports Journalist of the Year at the Ghana Youth Excellence Awards in May 2025.

This recognition is likely to catapult Bill Eshun to new heights in his career, motivating him to keep delivering top-notch content that resonates with sports fans.

With his expertise and passion, Eshun solidifies his position as a leading figure in Ghanaian sports journalism, inspiring both upcoming journalists and athletes.
