Former MP for Bantema, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has explained how the Highlife group, Lumba Brothers, was formed.

In a discussion on UTV, shared on TikTok on July 29, 2025, Kwabena Kokofu recounted his first encounter with the late Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong about 40 years ago.

According to the politician, the group included seven individuals, and Lumba’s first wife, Serwaa Akoto, who sponsored their first album titled “Yee Ye Aka Akwantum” in 1989.

“Our first encounter with Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong was in Germany in the year 1985… The group involved seven guys, including me, my wife, and Lumba’s first wife, Serwaa Akoto,” he said.

Kwabena Kokofu further disclosed how they were able to record the “Yee Ye Aka Akwantum” album.

“We were there one day when Lumba called us to come play a beat for him with a fork and knife. Also, Nana Acheampong had a white girlfriend, and through that, we got in touch with some white people who were beat producers. That was how we brought Yee Ye Aka Akwantum,” he stated

The politician further shared pride in his contribution to the career growth of the late Lumba and Nana Acheampong.

“This is a very great lesson, and I am happy that I was able to support them to where they got to… I remember the time they asked me to be their manager. I didn’t know anything about music, so I told them I wanted to come to Ghana and continue my education. But we were in touch ever since,” he added.

The late Daddy Lumba, known for his classic hits such as Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem, Theresa, Anidaso, and Ohia Asomdwe, died on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after battling a brief illness.
