Lovers of highlife music have been in mourning for the past five days following the death of one of its legendary singers, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

The late Lumba, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, blessed Ghana’s music landscape with his iconic songs, including Enye Nyame Den, Medo Wo Asem Bebree, and Makra Mo, among many others.

Before his death, the musician took to social media on December 21, 2024, to reflect on the passing of his mother, Maame Ama Saah. In what has now become his final public post about her, he noted that 2024 marked 23 years since her passing.

“It’s been 23 years since you left us, Maame Ama Saah, but the pain still feels fresh in my heart,” he wrote.

The late musician described his mother as his rock and greatest support.

“You were my rock and greatest support, shaping me into who I am today. Your love and sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

Even though she was no longer alive, Lumba expressed certainty that his mother was in a better place.

“I’m consoled knowing very well you are in a better place, looking down on your children, Akosua Bremponmaa, Fowaa, and me with pride. We are here because you were here. Rest in peace, Maame,” he added.

Daddy Lumba, known for timeless classics such as Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem, Theresa, Anidaso, and Ohia Asomdwe, will remain a towering figure in Ghana’s music scene even in death.

He died at the age of 60.
