Late Ghanaian legendary musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has been the centre of discussions for the past days after news of his death shocked music lovers.
Daddy Lumba passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, after battling a brief illness.
Before the late musician’s passing, he contributed significantly by nurturing musical talents and entertaining music lovers both in and out of the country.
The late Lumba had approximately 34 albums to his credit, and this article explores his debut album, which catapulted him into the limelight.
Lumba, in the 1980s, was part of a group called the Lumba Brothers with Nana Acheampong.
After forming the group, the musicians planned to release their first-ever album in 1986; however, due to financial constraints, their plans were ultimately abandoned.
It was in the year 1989 that Lumba was able to release his first album, titled “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu”, with support from his first wife, Akosua Serwaa.
The late Lumba and Nana Acheampong had five songs on the album.
Nko Gyame:
The Lumba Brothers began their “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu” album with the popular track “Nko Gyame”.
“Nko Gyame” is a love song that talks about relationship issues.
In the song, the late Lumba spoke about how he can’t survive if his lover breaks up with him.
Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu:
Lumba and Nana Acheampong’s second track was named after their album.
“Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu” talks about how they were finding it difficult to return home after staying in the diaspora for years.
The song began with a phone call from Nana Acheampong to the late Lumba. During the phone call, the two talked about how Ghanaians like to spread rumours about people who travel to seek greener pastures.
The creatives also highlighted the struggles of travellers in the diaspora.
Odo Fakye:
“Odo Fakye” is an apology song composed by the Lumba Brothers.
In the song, the late Lumba and Nana Acheampong talked about how lovers should forgive themselves after a heated argument.
Lumba, through their creativity, also talked about how he has forsaken his family and friends because of his lover.
Yenka Ntam:
“Yenka Ntam” is also one of Lumba’s hit songs on the “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu” album.
“Yenka Ntam” is a song that speaks about promises and covenants made in a relationship.
The late Lumba, in the song, asked his lover to enter into a covenant with him, a sign to solidify their relationship.
Aban Nsa Aka Wo:
“Aban Nsa Aka Wo” is the last song on Lumba’s first-ever album.
The Highlife song, similar to the “Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu” track, despite talking about arrest, also spoke about how family should wholeheartedly welcome their members after years of staying abroad.
The creatives, based on their storyline, also noted in their song the pain and struggle individuals go through in another man’s land.
