Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was captured in a now-viral photo observing a female factory worker operating a machine used for producing metal labels during a visit to a local industrial facility.

The visit, at the time, highlighted the government’s commitment to industrialisation and job creation in the post-independence era.

The image was shared by X user Kweku Opoku-Agyemang via his handle, @KwekuOA on July 28, 2025.

Throughout his tenure, Dr Nkrumah consistently championed state-led development and the expansion of local manufacturing as key pillars of Ghana’s economic transformation.

Dr Nkrumah and his administration also made deliberate efforts to promote technical skills among Ghanaians and reduce dependence on foreign imports.

As part of this agenda, the government invested heavily in industrial infrastructure and training to empower citizens and boost national productivity.

Dr Kwame Nkrumah is widely remembered for establishing numerous factories during his tenure, some of which remain operational today, while many others have become defunct.

These efforts formed part of a broader agenda to build a self-reliant economy and strengthen local expertise.
