Nigeria pulled off a dramatic second-half turnaround to defeat host Morocco 3-2 and win their 10th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Rabat.

The Super Falcons trailed 2-0 at halftime but showed immense grit and championship pedigree to silence the home crowd at the Stade Olympique. Goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late strike from Joe Echegini completed one of the greatest comebacks in WAFCON history.

Morocco had taken early control of the final, with Ghizlane Chebbak opening the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by a cool finish from Sanaâ Mssoudy after a clever assist from Ibtissam Jraidi.

But Nigeria came alive after the break. A VAR-awarded penalty just past the hour mark was confidently converted by Okoronkwo, who then turned provider for Ijamilusi’s equaliser in the 71st minute.

As the match seemed destined for extra time, Echegini rose to the occasion with an 88th-minute winner off a brilliantly executed set-piece.

Despite Morocco’s desperate attempts to level late on, Nigeria held firm to clinch a famous victory — reasserting their status as queens of African women’s football and spoiling Morocco’s dreams of a maiden title on home soil.
