Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang paid a courtesy visit to the revered Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, at the historic Emintsimadze Palace in Cape Coast. The purpose of her visit was to express her deepest gratitude to the chiefs and people whose unflinching support had culminated in her historic appointment as Ghana’s first female Vice President.

As she arrived at the palace, the Vice President was warmly welcomed with a traditional reception, marked by jubilant cheers, solemn traditional appellations, and the melodious singing of party anthems. The Oguaa Traditional Council, under the leadership of Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, invoked divine blessings and protection upon the Vice President, President John Dramani Mahama, and the country, beseeching the Almighty to guide and prosper Ghana.

In a gesture of esteem, the Oguaamanhen conferred upon the Vice President the prestigious Osabarimba Royal Award, accompanied by a shield, citation, kente cloth, traditional slippers, and beads. Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II lauded the Vice President for her remarkable humility and selfless service, reiterating the Oguaa Traditional Area’s steadfast support for her leadership.

The Vice President extended her sincere appreciation to the people of Oguaa and the Central Region, acknowledging the unwavering support and prayers that had been a cornerstone of her journey.

“I thank you for the love, prayers, and respect you have always shown me,” she said. “I am a mother for you and for all. I know your prayers are with me, and I feel your support every day as I work to serve this nation.”

She emphasized that her appointment transcended personal achievement, representing a collective triumph for all women and the people of Ghana.

She also underscored the importance of continued collaboration between traditional authorities and the government to propel national development, highlighting the pivotal role chiefs play in ensuring peace and progress.

In a message to the youth, she urged them to eschew detrimental behaviors and work towards Ghana’s growth and unity.

“I appeal to you to desist from any behavior that will not be good for this country or for yourselves. We all have a role to play in ensuring that Ghana grows stronger and remains united,” she stated.
