The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called for a complete transformation of land administration services in the Greater Accra Region to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accessibility.

Speaking at the inauguration of a 31-member Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission Board in Accra on Tuesday, the Minister described the current system as deeply frustrating for many Ghanaians. He cited persistent issues such as delays, missing files, land disputes, and rampant encroachment.

Mr Buah emphasised the need for strict enforcement of land laws and stronger collaboration between the Lands Commission, the Judiciary, and security agencies. He condemned multiple sales of land, encroachments on public lands, and garrison-style land control, warning that these violations would no longer be tolerated.

He urged the board to implement Section 182 of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), which requires the registration of colonial land holdings and the integration of local planning into a national database.

“You are being entrusted with a critical mandate. This is not just an administrative task—it is a national imperative,” he said. “The people of Ghana deserve land services that are fast, fair, and functional.”

Commending the newly appointed board members, Mr Buah expressed confidence in their professionalism and integrity, noting their appointment as recognition of their public service commitment.

The Minister underscored the link between effective land governance and national development, particularly concerning the government’s 24-hour economy vision. He noted that streamlined and secure land transactions were essential to attracting investment in housing, manufacturing, agri-processing, and tourism.
