Felix Kwakye Ofosu is Minister of State in Charge of Government Communication Felix Kwakye Ofosu is Minister of State in Charge of Government Communication

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration intends to repurpose the stalled National Cathedral project into a Cultural Convention Site.

Speaking to the media on Friday, July 18, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu clarified that although a proposal suggesting an alternative use for the site had been submitted to the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, no decision had been made by President Mahama.

“President Mahama has not taken any such decision. What happened is that the 24-Hour Secretariat received a proposal from an entity suggesting how the site could be used, but no such decision has been made by President Mahama,” he stated.

He added that the government was still awaiting the outcome of a forensic audit into the National Cathedral project and the activities of its Secretariat before making any final decision.

“As I indicated, once the forensic audit is completed and all relevant matters are clearly understood, a firm decision will be made regarding the future of the site,” he said.

The National Cathedral project was first announced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 as a non-denominational Christian worship centre, intended to serve as a national place of prayer and a symbol of unity.

However, the project has since stalled amid funding challenges and concerns over governance and accountability.
